Cumbria Flood Recovery Funds
We have set up a fund for individuals and families and for voluntary groups who suffered in the flooding on 19 November. We are also administering similar funds for two district councils - the Eden District Council Flood Recovery Fund and the South Lakeland District Council Flood Recovery Fund, both of which offer help with flood resilience work. We are writing to all affected households in the two districts about this.
Ways to give
1. Give online through the Big Give. There is a small administrative charge to process this.
2. Alternatively donate to the fund using your credit or debit card or CAF account
In the box which says 'Please pass the following instructions to the charity' simply type 'Flood'. Charities Aid Foundation make a small administrative charge to process this.
You may experience difficulties due to the high number of people wanting to donate but if necessary please try again.
3. You can also make direct payments to an HSBC account called 'CCF Flood account' sort code 40 16 22 account number 02260212. You can do this through any HSBC branch or if you have online banking directly. However you cannot add gift aid in this way but can let us have it by completing the donation form and sending it to us.
4. You can also donate at any Cumberland or Furness Building Society branch. (The Cumberland Building Society in Cockermouth is at Mitchell's estate agency).
5. Alternatively you can send a cheque made out to Cumbria Community Foundation to
Cumbria Community Foundation, Dovenby Hall, Cockermouth CA13 0PN. Please write on the back 'Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund'.
Please also complete and enclose the donation form.
6. Finally you can also make a donation at any community foundation in Britain and Ireland - find your nearest here.
Administrative costs
The administrative cost for the foot and mouth appeal and the 2005 flood appeal was between 5-6%. However, we have corporate donations that are happy to be used for this purpose. Therefore, we expect to be able to use all public donations for grants to individuals and groups. In our report and accounts our administrative fees are higher than many charities. This is because we have development staff who work with individuals and businesses helping them develop their philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. Sometimes this does not bear fruit for many years. We believe that the success in raising £1m in 10 days is due in part to working with these people, building their confidence and trust over the last few years.
Grants from the Cumbria Flood Recovery Funds are available for individuals and families in Allerdale, Eden, South Lakeland and elsewhere in Cumbria and for groups supporting them. Individuals may also wish to apply to the United Utilities Trust Fund which, whilst primarily concerned with water charges, can also help with other costs.
Full details of the fund are in the appeal document.
