Team Evie is a charity based in West Cumbria which supports sick children and their families. Founded in 2015 in memory of six-month-old Evie Johnston, the charity provides a range of materials, equipment and training to hospitals and in the community, as well as bereavement support to parents who have lost a child. After contacting Cumbria Community Foundation to discuss their plans for the future, the charity were directed towards the Bedrock Digital scheme.

Chief Executive Greg Johnston said: “We’ve been really lucky to have support from various people who have helped with our website, Google analytics, marketing etc. Our next project was to develop a Peer Support Service run by volunteers with real-life experiences of the issues we support with, but we needed to build a CRM [Customer Relationship Management system] to manage the caseload, as well as a new website and digital channels to promote the service and support those in need.”

After speaking with an organisation running a similar service in Manchester, Greg worked with Charity Technology to ensure the charity was buying the correct items.

“The application form was really easy to complete, and it was good to have expert advice. Thanks to the Bedrock Digital grant, we have been able to invest in a new CRM which is really beneficial for our service users, staff and volunteers. Everything is much more streamlined.

“Without this grant we wouldn’t have been able to support families in the way we have. It has enabled us to build the service and get our first team of volunteers trained and supporting families in need. Cumbria Community Foundation and Charity Technology were both really supportive and it felt like we were working together to achieve our goals.”

Bedrock Digital is part of Transforming West Cumbria (TWC) which is funded through Sellafield Ltd’s Social impact multiplied (SiX) programme.
