NMP help for Allerdale advice service

28th October 2014

£5000 of Nuclear Management Partners’ (NMP) funds will be used to ensure that the Allerdale Citizen’s Advice Bureau can continue to offer an important advice service to the local community. The money from the parent body organisation for Sellafield Ltd is being delivered through the NMP Community Fund, managed by Cumbria Community Foundation.

Over the last year, Citizens Advice has seen a significant increase in the number of clients coming to them for help and advice.

Jack Bowden, of Allerdale Citizens Advice said: “We see on average 4,800 clients per year who have numerous problems and issues.

“We require the funding for a designated officer responsible for recruitment and training volunteers to ensure continued access for the community to quality maintained and accessible advice.

Gary McKeating, NMP Head of Socio-Economics, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the important work of the Allerdale Citizen’s Advice Bureau and the invaluable advice they offer to local people.  Clearly the service would not exist without its army of dedicated volunteers and I am delighted that our funds are going to be used to increase their numbers.”

Annalee Holliday, Grants and Donor Services Officer from Cumbria Community Foundation said: “Earlier this year NMP pledged up to £500,000 to their community fund at Cumbria Community Foundation and the number projects they have been able to is outstanding. The fund aims to tackle debt and financial exclusion and in this present financial climate, this project is of high importance.”
