William Milburn Charitable Trust Community First Fund

The Trust aims to support groups and organisations within the parish of Brampton and surrounding areas. Examples are Castle Carrock, Hethersgill, Askerton, Lanercost, Scaleby, Upper Denton, Walton & Farlam.

It will support projects that will help address local needs and/or create opportunities within the area that make a real difference to people in need and the wider community

Who can apply?
• volunteer led grassroots groups
• applications from new and small groups are particularly welcome

Examples of activities supported:
• singing for fun workshops
• young carers’ ocean voyage
• refurbishment of community centre
• recruiting, training and supporting volunteers
• junior football club coaching and training
• disabled access
• community market garden
• drop-in club for older people

Priority will be given to projects which support one of the following aims:
• tackling disadvantage in rural communities
• supporting disadvantaged children and young people
• hidden and emerging need

The Fund will not support:
• statutory organisations e.g. schools
• individuals
• non-charitable sports or arts
• promotion of religious doctrine
• marketing, advertising or promotion including publications, conferences, exhibition and web design

How much can you apply for?
• grant awards would be over one year
• minimum grant award would be £500
• grants will normally be under £1,000 but we may consider larger grants dependent on the project
