Beck Burn Wind Farm Community Fund Educational Bursaries

To support local people with vocational education and training opportunities using local training facilities and contribute to creating job opportunities in the local area.

How much is available?
£31,050 will be available for education & training grants, including bursaries, travel, equipment and training with a priority of residents living within 5k of the wind farm.

Who can apply?
Individuals over the age of 16 living within the Parish/Community Councils of Rockcliffe, Westlinton, Arthuret, Kirkandrews on Esk, Springfield & Gretna Green, Kirkpatrick Fleming & District, Canonbie & District and Gretna & Rigg, and doing a full-time further education or training course to develop their skills and employability.

What can be funded?
You can be studying any subject but priority is given to vocational courses as follows:

Priority 1: Renewables & energy related

Priority 2: Engineering, construction, health and safety, other STEM related

Priority 3: Industries which will benefit local employment including childcare, forestry, plumbing, joinery, electrical and other trades, haulage, agriculture. Also generic courses that enhance employability.

Priority 4: Other education courses

How much can I apply for?
The level of grant will depend on which course you are doing.

Full-time courses (1 year or more)

Figures below are maximum grants available per year.
Yr. 1 Yr. 2 Yr. 3
Modern Apprentice 1500 900 200 (Part Time)
NC, HNC. HND 1500 900 900 (Full time)

plus a £600 equipment grant in Year 1.

Short Term courses (less than 1 year)

The level of grant will depend upon which course you want to do and your own situation. We may cover part or all of the course fee, along worth £15 per day to help offset the cost of travel, childcare and subsistence.

We will not fund activities that:
• relate to the advancement of religion
• relate to the advancement of any party political activity
• are the exclusive responsibility of statutory authorities
• have an adverse impact on renewable energy/wind farm activities
