Willie Slavin

Willie was born in Ayr and was educated locally. Having moved to London in the early 60’s to work for the Inland Revenue he returned to education and completed his teacher education at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. His career in Primary education at schools in Hertfordshire and Essex led to his first Headship at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Whitehaven. He subsequently moved to be Head of St Begh’s Catholic Junior School also in Whitehaven. He completed a Masters in Applied Theology at Westminster College Oxford as a retirement project.

In retirement, Willie has been Chair of Trustees of Howgill Family Centre for twelve years and engaged in a number of community initiatives in support of families in need of support. He Chairs the West Cumbria Child Poverty Action Group and has recently taken on the role of Chair of Governors of St Benedict’s Catholic High School.

He lives in Whitehaven with his wife Monica. They have been known to engage in long walking holidays with his camera close at hand.
