United Utilities Legacy Fund

United Utilities set up the fund to support projects that will help improve the lives of people in West Cumbria.  The aim of the fund is to make grants which have a lasting benefit for the people and communities they serve.

Who can apply?
Community based organisations providing activities that benefit people or the environment in Allerdale and/or Copeland within a 10 mile radius of the pipeline.

What the fund will support:

Strategic Grants
Larger grants that will support locally based community activities that may be multi-year. Your application needs to address an issue that can improve the way your community based organisation operates or delivers its services so that it can better meet the needs of the community or your beneficiaries.

Examples of areas supported include: formation of strategy; leadership and management; staffing and volunteers; infrastructure; training; effective fundraising; communications; working with other organisations to maximise the use of available resources. Grants will normally be in the region of £10,000 – £30,000.

For more information on historical priority areas for grants, please read the  Cumbria Revealed document.

Community Grants
Grants of up to £10,000 for projects located close to the pipeline which have a lasting community wide benefit. These are likely to be one-off grants

Priority will be given to projects that can demonstrate a clear need and/or demand for their service and fit the Foundation’s grant making priorities.

We are particularly interested in projects that are volunteer-led or make good use of volunteers to support their work, and initiatives that are rooted within the local community and led by local people responding to local need.

How much can you apply for?
Funding will be available throughout 2018 until 2020, however, it is expected the majority of financial support will be awarded in the first two years.

What the fund will not support in addition to our normal exclusions:
• Individuals
