I was born in Seascale and have raised my family there. My grandchildren are now the sixth generation to be raised in the village. I worked in the family business all my life and have served as a Parish Councillor and a Borough Councillor representing Seascale for over 36 years.
I was a retained firefighter with Seascale Fire Station for 42 years, retiring in 2013 to allow me more time to devote to community and council work. During the last five years, I have served on the Directly Elected Mayors Executive with responsibility for Nuclear and Corporate Services. I have been Deputy Mayor of Copeland for the last three years. I am also the Council’s representative on the Copeland Community Fund and have served as a board member since the Fund started 12 years ago.
I was elected in 2005 as Chairman of the West Cumbria Site Stakeholder Group and enjoy working with the nuclear industry to ensure that community views are represented.
