Sarah Dunning, Westmorland Ltd Fund

Sarah Dunning, Chief Executive of Westmorland Limited, has two endowed funds with Cumbria Community Foundation. She said: “Our first fund was established in 2009 and the second in 2012 so that people working for Westmorland could access funding for community projects which they were personally involved in. It seemed like a great way for us to support projects which our staff care about. Because Cumbria Community Foundation manages the funds, we benefit from their unrivalled knowledge of community need in Cumbria. It is great to see the variety of requests come through and to be able to support such super projects.”

The Westmorland Community Fund helps community projects which support older adults, children and young people, groups who manage village facilities and groups operating or providing services in the travel to work area for Westmorland Limited.

One of the beneficiaries of the Westmorland Community Fund is ‘Friends of Shap School’. A grant of £1,500 was given to build a weatherproof canopy roof to provide shelter and cover for the children aged 3-7 when playing outside. It also funded a practical and safe flooring for the outside area at the school.
