Wind farm brings cash to Parishes
The Winscales Moor Wind Farm Community Fund has been set up to help support community projects in the Parishes of Winscales, Great Clifton and Little Clifton.
The Fund will support community projects in the three Parishes that reduce the impact of climate change, encourage sustainable use of energy and other resources or benefit local wildlife.
Wind farm developers, Your Energy Ltd, will be signing up the Cumbria Community Foundation to manage the fund on Thursday 17th January. The fund will consist of an initial donation of £18,200, followed by a further £4,450 each year for the next 25 years.
The Cumbria Community Foundation will work closely with the three parishes to ensure the Fund supports projects that are put forward by members of the community and local charitable organisations.
The Community Foundation will be organising a meeting in February to start looking at potential projects. Groups in the area who think their project or idea could benefit from the Fund should contact Deb Muscat, Grants Development Officer, on 01900 825760 or their local Parish Council.
Andy Beeforth, Director, Cumbria Community Foundation said: “Your Energy approached us because it wanted to see that the local community benefited from the Winscales Moor wind farm development as soon as it was built. As a well known local grant making charity we have all the systems in place to set up a new fund that meets the needs of the community as well as the company.”
Alexandra Bowers, Development Manager for Your Energy said “In addition to the lump sum of £18,000, we are pleased to announce that we will be paying the first five years’ annual payments in advance. This means over £40,000 in the community pot this year, to enable some major initiatives to be started as soon as possible.”
The fund will be activated when construction commences later this year.
