Community Foundation makes first grants from new fund
Cumbria Community Foundation has made its first grants from the Joyce Wilkinson Fund.
They include money for arts activities, a lunch club and an after-school drama club.
The Foundation has just taken over the job of administering the fund, which was set up when Joyce Wilkinson left much of her estate to be used for good causes near her home. She lived in Rosley and Westward all her life.
Boltons After School club was awarded £700 to run a 12-week drama course involving parents and culminating in a community performance.
Northern Fells Group was given £2,500 towards employing a worker to support existing projects and liaise with the community to plan new ones.
The Rosley Lunch Club received £400 toward hiring the village hall to serve monthly meals.
Rosley Village Hall committee were awarded £260 to replace worn carpet.
Solway Arts Society received £500 towards putting on 12 professional theatre and music performances in six village halls in Allerdale (Caldbeck, Plumbland, Torpenhow, Mawbray, Blencogo and Welton.)
Ireby Players were given £500 to help stage an annual music festival.
Nelson Thomlinson School Rock Challenge Group was given £200 to make their own dance costumes for the Rock Challenge event.
