The Cumbria Community Memorial Fund has been created to support the people and communities affected by the shootings of 2 June 2010.
It is in response to the needs arising from the shootings and the public's wish to demonstrate its sympathy and support for those affected.
The fund has been opened with the support of the members of the Cumbria Recovery Coordination Group.
It will be managed on behalf of partners by the Cumbria Community Foundation. A committee of the Foundation involving trustees and community representatives will oversee distribution of the funds. The committee will meet for the first time next week. How funds will be distributed will be agreed following discussions with the affected families and the local community. It is a broad based charitable fund.

Cumbria Flood Recovery Funds
The trustees of the Community Foundation have decided to stop actively fundraising for the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund Appeal.
We are asking people to stop making new donations or arrange new events for the Appeal because we are in the very fortunate position to be holding sufficient funds to meet the likely demand. If you have already planned to hold an event, please do so as we have made our decision expecting that more money will still come into the Appeal. If you still have money to contribute please send a cheque to Cumbira Community Foundation, Dovenby Hall, Cockermouth CA13 0PN making the cheque out to 'Cumbria Community Foundaiton - Flood'.
Administrative costs
The administrative cost for the foot and mouth appeal and the 2005 flood appeal was between 5-6%. However, we have corporate donations that are happy to be used for this purpose. Therefore, we expect to be able to use all public donations for grants to individuals and groups. In our report and accounts our administrative fees are higher than many charities. This is because we have development staff who work with individuals and businesses helping them develop their philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. Sometimes this does not bear fruit for many years. We believe that the success in raising £1m in 10 days is due in part to working with these people, building their confidence and trust over the last few years.
Grants from the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund are available for individuals and families and for groups supporting them
Full details of the fund are in the appeal document.
