Examples: Barrow Community Trust
The Community Foundation was invited by the Heart of Barrow Single Regeneration Budget Partnership to establish a permanent fund for Barrow. It also contributed £150,000 towards an initial target of £500,000.
This provided the opportunity for the creation of Barrow's own Trust. The Trust has its own fundraising and grant making committees and is a restricted fund within the Foundation.
Some of the organisations supported by grants include:
Furness Carers' Association Young Carers' Project
Two grants of £5,000 and £6,928 to support an activities co-ordinator for children and young people who have major caring responsibilities at home
Ocean Youth Trust (North West) Furness Support Group
£4,320 for a programme of events for young people based around sailing.
Haven Community Centre
£1,000 for a new cooker
Barrow and District Table Tennis Centre Limited
£300 for table tennis for people with learning difficulties
Barrow Ju Jitsu Club
£1,000 for changing rooms with modern seating and flooring
Canteen Film Project
£1,000 to reupholster cinema seats and develop digital cinema
Unity in Music
£500 to promote local live music during winter nights
Barrow Amateur Swimming Club
£1,000 for coaching development and training
