Eden Rural Foyer – Personalised Job Hunting Service

10th July 2015

Eden Rural Foyer was awarded £750 from the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald Fund last summer to develop a personalised job hunting service.

The hub at Eden Rural Foyer in Penrith has been recognised as valuable and is the only community training resource in Eden, offering a free Job Club to local people.

The club offers specialist, professionally tutored sessions for anyone who needs support as well as personalised 1 to 1 sessions and workshops. People have gained knowledge and understanding of IT, which is essential for applying for jobs online; to help them design their own CV or improve the one they already had and to assist within interview skills.

Some of the clients using the Job Club said:

Kevin, aged 59
“I think the course is very good to learn how to look for jobs online, update your CV and generally learn how to use a computer and the internet. I didn’t know anything about it when I first attended the Foyer but I’ve learnt a lot. The tutor is very good and friendly and I really enjoyed the course.”

Ewa, aged 39
“My English language skills are poor so I really struggled to find any jobs. I came to the Foyer and Emilia helped me with the language while Erol was showing me how to register for the Universal Job Match. Erol also helped me to do my CV as I never had one before. After completing the course I applied for job at the local baker and now I employed there full time, and so happy I finally got the job ”

Emilia Zbikowska, of Eden rural Foyer said: “Since July 2014 until May 2015 we helped 144 new customers on dedicated Job Club sessions and dealt with 609 overall. This unique and complex project has been essential to delivering a service to meet the needs of local people particularly those who are disadvantaged and are suffering from social exclusion.

“We would like to say a massive thanks for your generosity as we couldn’t do it without you. We are the only organisation offering an integrated approach to rural social isolation issues in this area. We will continue to develop the ongoing support and we offer a number of other services to promote Equality & Diversity and support those who face disadvantages.”
