Barrow: Giving

Community Trusts and Foundations have two main roles: making grants to local charities, and managing funds for local donors. They exist both to meet the needs of the local community and to serve the interests of those who wish to give.

For people wanting to support their local community it can be difficult to know how to choose which organisations to help. Many people tend to support national charities and may not be aware of the groups active in their own community. Important as national charities are, the Trust recognises there is an increasing need to underpin community regeneration by support for small and local groups. Voluntary and community organisations require support funding to address local needs. The Community Trust has established a permanent, independent and flexible source of local funds, which can respond to changing community issues and needs.

The Trust offers a way to put something back into the local community. In addition, by helping to build a long-term fund, your giving can go on making a difference, as new grants are made year after year to meet the needs of future generations.

People and organisations can fulfil their charitable interests through the Barrow Community Trust in a number of different ways.
