The Second Annual JENNINGS Rivers Ride, a Cycle Sportive takes place on Sunday 16th September 2012.

You can participate in THREE stunning Lake District bike routes, catering for of ALL abilities and helping to raise raise funds for Cumbria Community Foundation

The Jennings Rivers Ride reveals some of the UK’s finest scenery and cycling terrain from the heart of the Lake District all the way out to the Irish Sea.  It’s actually a series of three bike rides which start and finish in Keswick. It’s called the Rivers Ride because sections of the routes follow the affected river courses and criss-cross over many of the bridges that were either destroyed and replaced, or were badly damaged during the floods in 2009.

You can choose between:

The Family Ride (£16) – This is an all inclusive event that challenges youngsters (and their parents/guardians) to ride a distance of 11 miles around the beautiful Derwentwater.

The Middle Distance (£30) – This route has been designed to be an achievable cycling challenge for both novices (with some preparation) and experienced riders alike.  40 miles of lovely Lakeland roads heading west to Cockermouth via Ouse Bridge, returning to Keswick via the rebuilt Lorton Bridge and finishing with a climb over Whinlatter Pass.

The Big Day Out (£30) – This is THE BIG ONE.  A challenging ride designed for the  more experienced rider.  Don’t be deceived by the flat start which heads out to the Irish Sea at Workington via twisting country lanes. The route returns  to Keswick via three of the Lake District’s major road passes – Whinlatter, Newlands and finally Honister – to complete an epic ride of over 85 miles with a sting that is most certainly in the tail.

Improvements from last year
We listened to last years riders and we will be providing secure bike parking so you can enjoy the Fun Day, improved registration and a large marquee to enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake after the ride (included in the cost) as well as the bands and performers.

Is it for me? A Cycle Sportive is a long distance, supervised, timed, mass participation cycling event on public roads. It will appeal to a wide range of people from seasoned cyclists to first time riders and families who want a safe and friendly adventure.

Family Fun Day

It’s not all about cycling as there’ll be a Family Fun Day in Fitz Park, Keswick at the start / finish point of the event. On the field you’ll find a large marquee with entertainment, food and drink and a wide array of family-friendly games and things to do.

The Jennings Rivers Ride is a charity fundraising event organised by, and to help support the work of Cumbria Community Foundation. The grants we make go to the heart of communities throughout Cumbria.  We give out over £1m in grants to local organisations like Age UK, Domestic Violence Support, Play Groups, Village Halls, Youth Clubs and to individuals in need.    You are helping us simply by taking part in the rides, as a little bit of the entry fee goes straight to our charity.

If you can match your entry fee with sponsorship, we will help even more people in Cumbria.

Anyone who raises more than £100 will receive a Jennings Rivers Ride Yellow Cycling Jersey and appear on the Jennings Rivers Ride Roll of Honour.  There are also prizes for the most money raised for Cumbria Community Foundation.
