Easy-to-access grants for young people (11-21 years) wanting support to travel abroad
Funded by the Mary Grave Trust and administered by Cumbria Community Foundation
£50,000 available this year
Last year we gave 95 grants for an average of £730 and approved 85% of applications
Who can apply?
Individuals 11-21 years (must have attended full time education within the last two years)
* living in the former county of Cumberland (excluding Carlisle)
* priority given to those living in Workington, Maryport and then Whitehaven areas
This is a means tested grant programme. Applicants' total family income must be less than £490 per week (excluding all benefits)
Examples of activities supported
* school or youth organisation trips
* gap year activities
* work experience activities
* activities that are part of a further or higher education course
All trips must have an educational element. All grant recipients must report back to the Trust on their experiences and how the grant has helped them.

We will not fund
* individuals born outside the former County of Cumberland
* individuals born in Carlisle (unless mother resident outside Carlisle at the time of birth)
* trips in UK
* family holidays
How much can you apply for?
The maximum grant will normally be £1,012 over one year
When to apply?
The Trustees meet three times each year. Application deadlines are 31 December, 2 April 2010and 1 October.
