Funded by the Holehird Trust, of which Cumbria County Council is Trustee

Last year we gave 41 grants for an average of £919 and approved 78% of applications

Who can apply?

Voluntary and community organisations in Cumbria supporting residents of the former County of Westmorland *

Priority will be given to projects benefiting one or more of the following groups:

* elderly people
* disabled people
* children
* young people up to age 18

Applicants must be properly constituted voluntary or community groups supporting people living within the former County of Westmorland.

All applicants to any of the Foundation's grants programmes which support appropriate beneficiaries in Westmorland will automatically be presented to the Trustees.

How much can we apply for?

It is unlikely that requests for sums in excess of £2,000 will be approved
Urgent applications for less than £500 can be fast-tracked to ensure a quick response

Examples of activities that the fund may support

* music projects for children living in isolated rural communities
* sports sessions for disabled people
* outdoor play sessions for children andyoung people
* sports club development work with children
* community centre building work to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act
* general running costs for rural nursery
* staffing costs for Walking the Way to Health programme for older people

Grants are considered by the Trustees of the Holehird Trust at their quarterly meetings.
