Easy-to-access grants for groups who want to demonstrate how local action can contribute to tackling global environmental issues
Funded by an anonymous donation
£36,000 available this year. The fund value may vary from year to year.
Who can apply?
* groups that provide education, information and raise awareness about environmental issues
* groups that enable local communities to undertake practical projects that have specific local outputs that give people a greater understanding of global environmental issues
* we particularly welcome applications relating to energy efficiency, using sustainable energy sources, recycling, responsible water use or sustainable transport
Last year we gave 14 grants for an average of £4,100 and approved 78% of applications
Examples of activities the fund would like to support
* free information events about domestic solar or wind power use in Cumbria
* car sharing initiatives
* small scale recycling projects including furniture, clothing, and paint
* free information about producers of sustainable energy
* free practical workshops about composting methods

We will not fund
* enhancement of habitat for sporting purposes
* playground or school ground improvements
* zoos, captive breeding and pet rescue centres
* site improvements
*
beautification competitions (eg villages in bloom)
* computers
* individuals
* photocopiers
* vehicle purchase costs
How much can you apply for?
Grants will normally be in the region of is £2,000 over one year
