For skills development to help people to move towards work
Funded by the European Union through the European Social Fund with co-financing from the Learning and Skills Council.
£40,000 available this year. Maximum grant is £12,000 over one year
Who can apply?
Voluntary and community groups that would not normally be the subject of a European Social Fund application. Beneficiaries should be people currently unemployed and trainers should have QTLS or ATLS qualifications.
Priority will be given to projects targeting
* people with disabilities and health conditions
* lone parents
* people aged 50 and over
* people from ethnic minorities
* women
Last year we gave 6 grants for an average of £9,100 and approved 83% of applications

What will the fund support?
* promotion of innovative local solutions to tackle disadvantage
* all activities supported by the fund should facilitate people’s ability to apply for paid employment or look to participate in work-related training
* projects may include activities that increase motivation, confidence or improve interpersonal skills
Activities that could be supported include
* projects which reduce the barriers preventing people from getting a job or training or a qualification which would help them to get a job
* basic skills training, confidence building or other work delivered locally on a small scale which would support a journey towards employment
This fund is being delivered jointly with Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service who will be able to offer capacity-building support. Successful applicants will be expected to meet Learning and Skills Council monitoring and reporting requirements and to attend an initial induction session.
