Funded by Cumberland and Westmorland Herald

£1,400 available this year

Who can apply?

* groups benefiting people living in the Herald's main circulation area (including Penrith, Appleby in Westmorland, Kirkby Stephen and Alston
* groups with an annual income up to £25,000 in the last financial year
* groups helping people facing disadvantage
* applications from new and small groups are particularly welcome

Last year we gave 3grants for an average of £385 and approved 75% of applications

Examples of activities supported

* riding for the disabled
* community garden
* exercise classes for older people
* camping equipment for young people's group
* disability sports

We will not fund

* computers
* expeditions
* individuals
* non-charitable sports or arts
* outings except in special circumstances
* photocopiers
* promotion of religious doctrine
* revenue costs
* vehicle purchase costs

How much can you apply for?

* maximum grant will normally be £500
* projects should cost no more than £25,000

We also administer a number of small funds using the same criteria which cover specific areas or ages (Cumbria Communities Fund, CN Group Fund, Edmond Castle Educational Trust, Kipling Fund for older people, Kipling Fund for younger people, Russell Armer Fund) and will automatically consider appropriate applications
