For groups in ex-coalfields areas of West Cumbria

Funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust

£80,000 available this year

Last year we gave 13 grants for an average of £4,500 and approved 81% of applications

Who can apply?
Small voluntary and community groups (annual turnover below £100,000) serving neighbourhoods or super output areas with an index of multiple deprivation in the top half in the country in the following wards:

Allerdale
Clifton, Ellen, Maryport (Ellenborough, Ewanrigg and Flimby), Workington ( Harrington, Moorclose, Moss Bay and St Michael's)

Copeland
Cleator Moor (North and South), Distington, Egremont (North and South), Frizington, Moresby, Whitehaven (Bransty, Harbour, Hensingham, Howgate, Kells, Mirehouse and Sandwith)

How much can you apply for?
Grants are £500-£5,000 over one year

Examples of activities supported
* community centre running costs
* drop in centre
* refurbishment
* setting up costs

What will the fund support?
* small scale community groups which generate a larger scale benefit for the area
* projects meeting local need through a localised programme based on local knowledge and established networks
* groups which have traditionally had the greatest difficulty in attracting funding are particularly targeted
* the following costs are eligible:

o revenue (eg salaries, running costs, room hire, publicity)
o capital (eg office equipment, computers up to £400, building maintenance)
o feasibility studies
o business plans

Projects should support one or more of the following themes:
* Access to employment - connecting people to mainstream opportunities rather than job creation
* Education and skills - providing added value and filling gaps, not statutory mainstream provision
* Health and wellbeing - preventative measures and healthy lifestyle support
* Access to opportunities - equality of access and improving connectivity including transport issues

What cannot be funded
* management of administration costs
* car parks or footpaths
* bars or bar areas
* pigeon clubs
* parish, town or community councils
