Background

The Community Foundation exists to improve the quality of the community life of Cumbria by making grants to voluntary organisations and individuals and managing grant making funds on behalf of individuals, companies and government organisations.

Established in September 1999 the Foundation has given out £13 million in grants to more than 2,500 groups and 2,800 individuals.  We have also built our long term funds to over £5.0 million. We will distribute more than £2m in grant aid in 2010/11.

In November 2009 the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund was launched, raising in excess of £2.5m to help people affected by the floods.  To date £1 million of the appeal funds have been distributed and we expect the remainder of the funds will be largely spent by March 2011.

The Grants Officer will join a small and experienced team of grants staff.  This vacancy has been created to assist in the delivery of all of the Foundation’s grants programmes. Once trained and inducted the Grants Officer will have responsibility for a number of specific grant funds.  The post holder will also support the Grants Development Officer in the delivery of a range of grant programmes.

This permanent position has been created to provide additional grant assessing capacity within the Community Foundation and as part of succession planning for our existing experienced grants team.

We would be prepared to offer this position to someone who showed a strong aptitude and interest, plus a willingness to learn, but who may not possess all of the key skills.
